MEALS ON WHEELS RECIPIENT STORY
Mr. B is an 89-year-old WWII veteran who lives at home alone. His wife lives in a nursing home and suffers from Dementia. Mr. B’s primary medical history includes heart disease, arthritis and visual impairment.  After an initial home visit for assessment, it was determined that Mr. B’s medical issues and physical conditions restrict his ability to prepare meals for himself. Now Meals On Wheels (MOW) provides home delivered meals five times weekly, while his son and daughter provide meals for him on weekends. In addition, MOW provides counseling and nutritional education that encourage Mr. B to take an active role in maintaining optimal health.  Because of his medical issues, Mr. B was referred to another community agency, the Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP), which assists people aged 60 and older who need help with home care. These additional services enable Mr. B to be more independent and enhance his overall quality of his life.  These services provided through the Meals On Wheels ensure Mr. B's safety, enable him to maintain his independence and help to keep him connected to the community.   |
